About

The Surface Science Research Centre (SSRC) was first established as a UK Interdisciplinary Research Centre (IRC) in 1989. One of the major strengths of the SSRC is its excellent equipment base, constituting over 25 sophisticated spectroscopic and imaging techniques that allow surface events to be mapped at the nanoscale level and down to the femtosecond timescale.

The research themes of the SSRC cut across the disciplines of chemistry, physics, biology and materials science, and combine the efforts of both experimentalists and theoreticians. The overarching ambition of our work is to achieve nanoscale control, design and assembly of function.
